Hooded Sweatshirt, Fall/Winter, 2014
On loan from Private Collection
This hooded sweatshirt is a prime example of contemporary fashion designer Raf Simon’s tendency towards a clean aesthetic applied to elements that are traditionally associated with lower styles. The trope of the baggy “hoodie” is well established in the realm of hip-hop and streetwear. This example, rendered in a clean, creamy white transcends the usual examples of the genre through its formally elegant realization. The softness of the cotton-jersey exterior lends a sense of comfort that runs directly counter to the harder edged nature of streetwear.
